I remember, many years ago, when I used to have a couple of cats, our back door was fitted with a cat flap to allow them to come and go as they pleased. Unfortunately it wasn’t just our cats that made use of this flap and on more than a few occasions we’d have to chase off other cats who fancied their chances of making off with our cat’s food.
Back then the height of cat-flap technology amounted to fitting a small piece of clear plastic with hinges in your door. These days it’s getting quite clever!
Introducing the RFID Cat Flap! The cat-flap for folk who dislike other peoples cat’s coming in their house. It’s created by an Instructables user called ‘Landmanr’.
Using an Arduino, some wire, a standard domestic cat and a few other bits and pieces he created a cat flap that only opens up for his cat (or any other cat that’s clever enough to steal the RFID tag from his cat’s collar)
